Jia Wu, the Rotating Chairperson of the China Animation Overseas Consortium, China Animation Association, and the Executive Lead of the China Pavilion gives us a sneak peek at her country’s exciting plans at Annecy.
Can you please tell us a bit about the China Pavilion and your plans for Annecy?
The China Pavilion at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival is organized by the China Animation Association. It is an international platform that enables Chinese original animation companies to show their works at the festival and connect with animation professionals from around the world. The pavilion has been held for consecutive years. This year, it will once again be executed by Zoland Animation. At the event, several leading Chinese original animation companies, content platforms, and cultural service enterprises will come together to present their latest animations, technologies, and projects.
How many companies will participate in the China Pavilion and which projects will they spotlight?
So far, nine outstanding companies will participate in the China Pavilion. These include original animation companies such as CCTV Animation Group, Zoland Animation, Hangzhou Younuo Animation Co., Ltd., and Super Tundra Culture Communication; as well as platform-based companies such as YUEWEN and BILIBILI. There are also film and animation exhibitions, including China’s only national-level animation festival—the China International Cartoon & Animation Festival (CICAF)—and the Golden Panda Awards, as well as a national museum and a World Cultural Heritage site—the Palace Museum.
These companies will bring truly spectacular works. CCTV Animation Group will exhibit the classic-themed animated series Journey to the West, reinterpreted from the perspective of this era, along with a unique piece titled Ho-Ho and Tropical Sound Clash, which organically integrates Chinese Panda figure and Brazilian feature animals as well as diverse musical styles. Zoland Animation will bring a heartwarming children’s growth story Rubi’s Adventure, and a fun and engaging animated movie The Chaotic 7th Day. The Palace Museum presents its classic IP animation Luduan: The Forbidden City Adventure, which features China’s cultural unicorn Luduan and takes viewers on a magical night adventure in the Forbidden City, celebrating Eastern aesthetics, preserving millennia-old cultural heritage, and telling a story of family, growth, and cultural preservation. YUEWEN will showcase the mysterious fantasy Lord of Mysteries, and the e-sports IP The King’s
Avatar. BILIBILI will present the epic Eastern xianxia series A Mortal’s Journey and an imaginative memory-adventure story False Memory. Hangzhou Younuo Animation Co., Ltd. will show Hey, Toma, which focuses on color cognition and teamwork. Finally, Super Tundra Culture Communication will present REMI, an animation series full of imaginative and whimsical inventions. Moreover, the China International Cartoon & Animation Festival (CICAF) and the Golden Panda Awards, as two influential festival and exhibition platforms, will show the vitality and appeal of China’s animation industry to international peers.
What are some of the other events planned for Annecy?
Stand B.30 will include an image display area, an enterprise and institution exhibition area, and a reception and meeting area, providing convenient spaces for discussions and collaboration. Moreover, the pavilion will host the China Outstanding Animation Showcase, which aims at presenting the best achievements of Chinese animation and international cooperation projects. Participants can also attend the Networking Cocktail Hour to exchange ideas on creativity, technology, and the market with animation professionals from around the world. In addition, the China- Europe Animation Education Dialogue will explore how animation education and the industry can inspire each other, as well as interesting topics on cultivating international talent. Furthermore, on-site project signings and achievement releases will allow participants to witness collaborations that turn ideas into reality. We will also invite several senior international animation professionals for knowledge and professional exchanges, providing opportunities for face-to-face discussions to transform good ideas into great projects. Please visit the China Pavilion to collect your invitation and join us in this exciting animation event.
